A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!
This is Ranger, our military K-9 tech support specialist in training...
A Special thank you to all our military men and women who keep us safe and especially to those who are away from their loved ones during this holiday season....Stay safe, God bless.
In addition, I would like to thank all our newsletter subscribers for your continued support over the years, and extend a special thank you to DJ Ned Ward and DJ Pat Appleson for their ongoing support. Thank you both for your incredible DJ skills playing the music many of us grew up with from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond.
Nothing evokes the memories of Christmases past like music. It captures the warmth of family and friends reunited for a few days at least. It gladdens the heart with familiar melodies, and lifts the spirits with its timeless message of peace, love, and goodwill toward all. Here's a couple of our favorites I'd like to share with you.
When Elvis filmed his 1968 "Comeback" TV Special, Martina McBride was not quite 2 years old. Forty years later the country singer steps back in time to join Elvis in one of the coolest videos of Elvis and Marina together on stage.
Notice how there's a spot between (guitarist) Scotty Moore and Elvis that's open. Producer, George Flanigen said..."It was like somebody should have been sitting there."
"We're like, We could probably figure a way to put her with Elvis." And they did...Martina walks out of the audience and sits right down next to him....How cool is that?
Its been 30 plus years since I first discovered, "All I Want For
Christmas is You." It's a favorite played regularly during the holiday's
each year.
We
all have our favorite Christmas songs, among mine are, Brenda Lee's
"Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," and Bobby Helms, "Jingle Bell
Rock." But from the moment this song began to play I was overwhelmed with nostalgia.
The song remains at the top of my list of favorites. As I recall,
when the DJ introduced the song my initial thought was this song must be from
the late 50s or early 60s, and somehow I missed it the first time
around.
To my surprise the song was actually released in
September, 1989. For all of our long time oldies visitors, please enjoy the above video I
put together just for you.
San Antonio native and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member, Aaron Barker Sr., shaped George Strait's catalog over the years as the writer of several sentimental chart hits. One of our favorites by Barker is Christmas Cookies released on the 2016 album titled "Strait For The Holidays."
Strait's recording introduced us to Barker's whimsical story about having a Texas-sized hunger for holiday baking (and an ulterior motive for wanting the kitchen timer set for 15 minutes). Enjoy this Holiday classic.
If you already enjoy cowboy songs and sittin' round the campfire, you will love this return to the Old West as we sing-along and recall those Happy Trails Vinyl Record Memories and this perfect cover song duet with Michael Martin Murphy and Suzy Bogguss.

And with this pleasing duet arrangement to close out the year, this Happy Trails cover would be a perfect ending to your cowboy campfire songs.
So, close your eyes, settle back and be transported to the Old West.
Get into the saddle and slip into the easy rhythm of the cattle drive, polish up your six-shooter and live again the exciting days of the frontier. Spread your gear around the campfire and, along with your saddle pals, sing these great old songs of the West. With the Happy Trails vinyl record memories as your last 'round the campfire song, you'll ride off into the sunset in style.
You never go wrong on any music from Michael Martin Murphey. Sung with passion and integrity, this man is one of the great music artists of the west. He has sung from solos to singing live with full Orchestras - and is always appreciated and admired.
He played a major role in the resurrection of the cowboy song genre, recording and producing some of the most successful cowboy music of the past forty years. His album Cowboy Songs inspired a whole series of albums.
